Twisted Seam

G-STAR has named Charlotte de Witte its Global Brand Ambassador, opening a multi-year partnership with a campaign for the returning Arc jean. The appointment is the easy story. What a jean built around a twisted seam has in common with a career built on its own label is the better one.

Twisted Seam

The seam on an Arc jean does not run down the leg. It turns.

That one construction decision is why the Arc has stayed in G-STAR's vocabulary long after most engineered fits were retired. The twisted leg seam pulls the denim into a corkscrew around the body. The brand reintroduced the jean in January at Spotlight Returns, its FW26 show at RAWFACTORY in Amsterdam, in loose and slim cuts. This week it gave the jean a face. Charlotte de Witte, the Ghent-born DJ, producer and founder of KNTXT, has been named G-STAR's Global Brand Ambassador in a multi-year partnership that opens with a campaign called Own the Arc.

The ambassadorship is not really the news. The women's collection is.

A Collection Rebuilt From the Seams

De Witte will front a reworked G-STAR Women line. The brand describes it as more feminine, fluid and refined, while keeping the rawness the label was founded on in 1989. For women, the Arc comes in straight and loose fits and sits inside a wider set of new designs and silhouettes rather than standing alone as a hero product.

A women's range can be built by scaling down a men's block and giving it a new name. Starting from the Arc, a jean defined entirely by where its seam goes, suggests the work is happening at the pattern table and not just in the lookbook.

The Arc Was the Brief

Own the Arc was created with the agency Longstoryshort and photographed by Marie Wynants in raw black and white analogue. The film takes its title literally. De Witte climbs the Arc de Triomphe from its base to the top and turns the monument into a stage, with the curve of the arch standing in for the curve of the jean.

Gwenda van Vliet, G-STAR's chief brand officer, presents de Witte as a source of inspiration for the brand as much as its face, and points to her discipline and independence. De Witte says she has always lived in denim, and sees the same independent streak in the label.

A Career With No Blueprint

The casting holds up on the record. De Witte played her early sets as Raving George and began performing under her own name in 2015. She launched KNTXT in 2019 and released a self-titled debut album in 2025, headlining Tomorrowland, Coachella and Ultra Miami along the way. She built that career on her own label rather than someone else's roster, which is the closest thing music has to moving the seam.

It is also G-STAR's second music signing in a month. Wu-Tang Clan arrived in September with a multi-year menswear partnership, and de Witte now carries the women's side. Both halves of the wardrobe are now in the hands of artists who built their own systems instead of borrowing one.

The seam was never meant to run straight. Neither was the climb.
